Year of the Dragon
Kung Hei Fat Choi or Happy Chinese New Year! To celebrate I thought I’d paint a dragon inspired piece this evening. I set my favourite dragon vase and Dragon Wing plant in front of me. I ended up with a local species of dragon, one that lives along our coast right here in Perth. It’s our Leafy Sea Dragon, a species of sea horse. Above is my work-in-progress, painted with a number 0 round on Arches rough.
This is one species that knows how to share responsibilities. The dad looks after the eggs, not the mum.
Hope your Dragon Year brings you much happiness & success. I’m off to prepare for an upcoming week of being scorched silly. We have been warned to expect temperatures around 42 C (107.6F) !!!
Where’s the ice cube trays….

I like your fun little dragon. I do enjoy looking at your photos also. I hope you are feeling and getting around better these days. I tried to leave a comment earlier this month, but was having issues–love your work, and your calling cards look great too!

He is so beautiful, love that you chose to paint him, and a #0 paint brush, good grief!

These are the most beautiful dragons. I have seen them at Seahorse World in Tassie. Happy year of the dragon. Great painting too. We are cool here with pouring rain and flash flood warnings people are nervous as the memory of last January are still vivid. Keep cool.

This little leafy guy just blows me away. You are so talented and creative Cindy and I love this dragon very much. I love how you have gained your inspiration from the vase and plant and come up with such a delightful artwork. Perfect and great to see you up and about!!!
Thanks everyone for your kind words. I really enjoyed painting this little guy, my Winsor & Newton watercolour kit was getting a little dusty with non-use!
Have been painting more watercolours- the only comfortable option in this extreme heat! Will post a pic later on today.
I LOVE your dragon!
