Weekend wanderings

 north-cottesloe-beach.jpg

Expeditions all over Perth was how the weekend was spent. All art/calligraphy related as well, with good coffee thrown in at the pit stops.

North Cottesloe Beach was one such coffee stop. Leisurely read of the Sunday paper, and then a good beachcombing/ photo session for future pastel paintings.

The seaweeds were fabulously coloured, red, alizarin, carmine – you name it, the colour was there.

The zig zag decoration of the shells was amazing – each one slightly different.

Such a beautiful stretch of coastline, it’s hard to believe that a man was killed here by a 4m Great White Shark in just waist deep water.

Another coffee stop was a lovely cafe on the swan River at Claremont. I had to check this space out for the planned Calligraphy Guild Exhibition – it passes with flying colours.

The light comes from a beautiful south facing wall of glass. With ample hanging areas for all our members to exhibit.

It’s going to be hard competing with that view though..

On to the Royal Showgrounds to drop off a painting for the Show, picked up some beautiful calligraphy accoutrements and books for the Guild from a generous benefactor, measured up another cafe for their new menu boards, and then onto the Wanneroo Art Society’s annual exhibition at Sorrento Beach. If sales are an inidcator, then the economy is doing great!

Phew, I need a weekend after the weekend!

Sounds like a hard life to me Cindy, you poor thing ha ha.
Those shells are beautiful, I collected a few when we went up north as you don’t see many shells on the beach up our way, I may have to do a Cottesloe beach trawl myself!

Ann life can be difficult – I’ve been battling with Chalk Board paint today!

I don’t think I can possibly house any more beachcombing finds, but then I always manage to squeeze a few more in. The beach just north of Hillarys Marina is wonderful for finds – especially after a winter storm it is literally covered in sea urchins, ram horn shells and violet shells. Burns and Beaumaris beaches are good for irridescent abalone shells.

Don’t get me started on my feather collection…..

Cindy what beautiful, unique beach finds, those shells & the colours of the seaweed, stunning, no wonder you find inspiration in them. And that Cafe where you will have your calligraphy exhibits, what an incredible space and your right, the view will be competition! Sounds like exhausting fun all way round!

Wow thanks for that info, I absolutely love shells and beachcombing, I could honestly do it for hours, I will have to venture further south, nothing on our Mindarie beaches apart from seaweed and the occasional cuttle fish!

What beautiful art you create! Glad I stopped by today :)

I live on the Pacific Ocean on the central coast of California, and tell myself every time I go to the beach to not collect any more sea side artifacts. Yeah. Right. Nice to hear another woman has a “problem” like me! And feathers? Oh boy…

Hi everyone – thanks for the kind words.

Brenda – I love the colour of the beach, and all it’s flotsam and jetsam. You know what they say about about One Man’s Treasure….

Ann, if you ever need any shells, I’d be more than happy to share my bounty. I must get up to Mindarie Beach – access to the left of the Marina?

Karen, coffee overdose had me going all afternoon – great for getting things done!

Gwynie, glad you found justification for collecting! You can never have too many shells. Or feathers.
