Down by the river

“Quietly” acrylic on canvas 100cm x100cm (40″ x 40″)

Finally finished! I’ve been working non-stop on this river painting and am finally happy with it.

Lots of experimenting with bold colour and big brushwork, trying to achieve big swathes of movement.

Breaking away from my usual realist, representational mode is still not easy, but I’m working on it. The mindset when painting on this scale is worlds away from my much, much smaller birds.

Exhibition runs from next Monday 18 August until Saturday 28 August at  The Park Centre, East Victoria Park.

I’ve been spending a lot of time by the banks of the Swan, following it along the South Perth, Victoria Park, Belmont, Bayswater and Swan Valley foreshores. Soon I hope to follow it along it’s Bassendean  (of Rolf Harris fame) banks.

A pair of labs were having a fabulous time retrieving not one, but two, balls at the same time. During the middle of winter, swimming across the Swan was a superb effort!

See them?

These are stunning, took my breath away. Absolutely love the deep vibrant tones, these would be incredible to see life size. Whatever battle you may have had doing these, just know it was a battle won on your part! They vibrate with life.

Labs will tackle just about any temp to play in water, my son has a chocolate lab and he will bound into the water when it’s icing over! Still seeing those heads way out there crossing that long distance, phew! Glad they made it. Lots of inspiration by the Swan I can see.
And thank you for your wonderful comments, your descriptions make them feel special :-)

I love these pieces! They remind me of long exposure photography of fast moving water. The colors are so gorgeous!

Wow Cindy….again more beautiful paintings. Having moved from one extreme to the other you have done very very well in doing so. Congratulations and I really hope your showings go well.

Cindy, those colours are amazing in your latest work, can’t wait to see it in real life. I too need to loosen up and learn to use a large brush, I may take your advice and force myself to try a piece using a large brush only. My mum paints and she hardly uses a smaller brush and her stuff is amazing, I feel it would help me to loosen up and feel the picture rather than try to control it. By the way you inspired me to start my blog so keep up the good work!

A big Thank You! to you all for your inspiring words. It means so much to me.

It’s always hard when you’re learning something new – my head is so full of images and new techniques to try, but there are enough hours in each day.

Back to the easel…and floor (for the big canvases).

    Cheers,

    Cindy

Fabulous work Cindy, especially as the technique is new to you. I love the colours. Labs and water are just a natural fit, even in winter. They’re like the essential dog aren’t they? “Huh! me dog, ball, water, life perfect!”
