Painting feathers

 feather-painting.jpg

Busy in the studio today with feathers the kookaburra family kindly left behind. I couldn’t find my wide mouthed waterjar, and with nothing else to hand I splashed out with the crystal. Felt very opulent painting with this, and tapping water droplets off my brush made the most lovely tinkling ring.

I enjoyed painting these, which got me thinking about the rest of my HUGE feather collection. In boxes, in bags, in bottles, in baskets, in buckets. They are everywhere!  Who said crystal vases were just for flowers?

Ah, I see I am not the only one with collections of feathers. Although mine are not as extensive or fine as yours! And you have perfectly captured them with your brush. Beautiful.

I think you out do me on the collecting front! Beautiful painting, you must have so much patience and attention to detail.

    Hi Leslie,

I think feather collecting is altogether more common than we think – unfortuantely my collecting does not stop there – nests, bones, leaves, seeds, you name it, I’ve got some in a jar somewhere….

    Thanks for your kind words.

    Hey Tazar,

How is Oscar The Wonder Dog going? And cranky puss? I think you are the one person that could seriously give me a run for my money with collecting stuff!

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Hi Cindy
Oscar the Wonder Dog is great, not happy tonight because he’s been farmed out – I have to go to Kakadu for a couple of days to talk to indigenous marine rangers and he can’t come, and I spent all weekend working at a rural show instead of indulging him at the beach. I’ll have to do an Oscar post soon. Cranky Puss is the same as ever, amazing how cats have such even personalities, nothing changes.

Because my place is so small, I can only keep collecting if I throw things out to make room for the new stuff – at the moment it’s clothes that go! Thank Buddha for the tropics, singlets and shorts it is!

Ha! You make me smile – until I read the whole sentence I thought you had gone all Naturist on me! Cold cold nights here – down to 4C. Not good unless it’s thermal singlets!

Please take your camera to Kakadu – I would love to see what you see you lucky thing! Not so lucky for Oscar. And I know what you mean about kitties – mine never blinked an eye when I got back – just the ususal “What’s the holdup with my biscuits?’

Looking forward to hearing about your adventures when you get back.

Painting with a crystal water jar is very posh but worthy of your talent. Great paintings of the feathers and I love the shot of the feathers (in crystal) on the old suitcase.

Nina, thanks for stopping by – you have quite a colourful blog yourself.

Bill & Diane – hope you are enjoying your new grandson – he’s a cutie! Thanks for your kind comments.

Karen, yes it was a quick trip to Sydney – only 5 days but I packed a lot in. Come over any time, I’ll pop the kettle on!

Oh I love your feather paintings. What tool are you using in the photo there, is it for the fine lines?

  13. Cindy, 3. June 2010, 12:06

Yes, it’s an “ergonomic grip” brush for fine lines, No. 00 Taklon Liner.
