Lots of laughing
Have been busy working on pieces for exhibitions - here’s one that was inspired by the wildness in my FNQ backyard.
(watercolour & gouache on illustration board)
We had the wonderful privilege of watching a baby kookaburra incubated, hatched and raised into a very cheeky bird. Along the way an Uncle/Aunt joined the family and then there were four. When it was brekkie time you certainly knew about it! Four Noisy Kookies on the bench, or going from window to window to see where I was. Ever been stalked by a hungry kookaburra?
Can you spot the Cheeky Baby?

Very interesting. You really captured the funny little birds! I understand one was raised inside for while and then released? Which one? The third one in line?
Thanks Margaret, and yes they can be quite hilarious to watch at times.
The parents (Mum far right, and Dad 2nd from left, raised their baby, 3rd from left - you guessed right), built a nest not far from our back fence. For weeks they came to our house for food, and then finally brought their baby to show us. The fourth family member (far right), appeared just after the baby, and started to help feed it.
When they all started laughing together, heads thrown back, it was deafening!
Your paintings are inspirational Cindy. Every time I see one of these gorgeous bird paintings, I want to pull out my airbrush - you make it look so easy, but I know it’s not.
What a fabulous area you live in with all that wildlife - I can’t believe the photos I see on your blog sometimes - we certainly couldn’t capture those amazing images in good old Glenmore Park. I definitely wouldn’t want to move if I was you!!!
i love the painting
they are such cool birds
Once again beautiful painting and delightful story! May you have great success with your exhibition.
Thanks girls! Your kind comments are much appreciated.
Karen, I’d love to see some of your airbrushed pieces.
Jennifer, yes they are waaay cool birds in real life.
Brenda, lots of group exhibitions coming up, not sure if I’ll make all the deadlines but will try my darndest!
What a wonderful painting and story. Neat birds!
Wonderful painting of the two kookies, Cindy. We used to have lots of Kookaburras visiting ,ut the noisy minas have chased them all away.
Reall fun piece Cindy)
Leslie, this feathered family brought me many hours of joy - I do miss them.
Bill, yes the Indian Minas can be so disruptive. Such aggression for such a little bird! None here in WA luckily. Or sparrows either. All non-native species trying to migrate across the continent are shot at designated points across the Bite.
Sam, fun is what art is all about!
Great painting Cindy. They are my favourite bird.
Diane, I’m with you. Apart from Maggies, these guys have such HUGE character.
