How green was my Garden?
Here’s a quick calligraphy piece done on canvas, originally intended for a Botanically themed Christamas exhibition by the Calligraphy Guild. Needless to say it never made it, as it was only finished it this week! Highly stylised and done on canvas, it certainly is a breakaway from my usual work.
I do love my garden, for all it’s unfinished corners and triffid-like tropical monsters. Unfortunately the recent Hail-Storm-From-Hell that hit Perth (going to hit a $billion in claims soon), decimated a lot of it, shredding leaves, flowers and a lot of my house!
When you have hail stones this size you get under cover pretty quick!
We have had several tradespeople come and go assessing the damage, and it it going to be a looong time putting things to right. There is going to be a severe shortage of Poly carbonate sheeting….
And these are but a few of the photos – we had rivers of water both inside and out!
But today a bright spot amidst the carnage – one lonely passionfruit flower escaped the onslaught – at a time when the vine should be dripping with fruit and flowers.
When this little blossom ripens into a delicious purple globe, it’s every man for himself!

I love the garden piece! The composition, colors and swirly branches are great!
So sorry about the storm damaging your house and flowers, what a shame! Hope it’s not too expensive, and I hope you have good insurance! Nice you can find something positive in the beautiful little passion flower that survived. Glad you’re okay.
I LOVE this calligraphy piece Cindy – it makes me smile just to look at it – so cosy and charming and your calligraphy work is so even – fabulous!!!
The calligraphy is well done and the passionfruit flower shot is great. It sure is an intricate piece of nature. boy oh boy that hail sure did some damage. It must be a hassle and an expense getting it repaired and the garden must have been heartbreaking. But like the passionfruit flower you will survive.
Thanks everyone!
I’m actually popping this piece into an exhibition opening Thursday night (drop off is tomorrow). I’m fortunate enough to have five pieces included, so am really looking forward to a glass of bubbles as we have ceiling painters in EARLY EARLY that morning. Yes, our ceilings are all water stained……
Sorry I have not been visiting lately. I will come back more often now.
Life gets hectic sometimes!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this calligraphy bit of work. Let me know when you are selling prints of it!
Doda, it’s so lovely to hear from you again! Life certainly never seems to slow down.
I actually sold this piece at exhibition, but did take archival images beforehand. Didn’t occur to me to offer it as a print – good thinking Doda!
As Secretary of the Calligraphy Guild I should be promoting all things calligraphic I suppose!
