Colour charts & quarterpipes
Having recently amassed a HUGE amount of new watercolours (all different brands from lots of different countries), my old colour charts are no longer up to the job. Time for new ones, and a new way of organising my pigments. I am boldly going to attempt to arrange them on one all-encompassing colour map. Famous last words perhaps…..
Below I am testing Winsor & Newton pigment density (student quality Cotman colours versus artist’s quality)
Other busy work was going on in our household over the weekend. Can you guess what the boys were building?
A Quarterpipe!
Yet another one, this time much, much smaller and no steel welding or huge skate park area required.

Hi there, I have been reading past entries and saw that you have painted a beautiful rainbow bird. Oddly enough, I started a Rainbow bird project myself, it is in audio format at the moment. Great minds must think alike!
Your bird paintings are lovely by the way.
I Love how organized you are! I’m usually pretty organized, but lately I’ll admit I’ve been slacking off. Almost time for spring cleaning.:0(
Your little dog looks just like our Toby! He was fourteen when we lost him two summers ago. We have two cats now, but we still miss him.
Cindy - I just commented on your comment over on my blog, and now I see you are doing some color comparisons, so I will get to see what brands you use.
LOVE your colorful blog!!!
Catherine
Hi Valerie,
Your Rainbow Bird project sounds intriguing - audio format? I’m looking forward to seeing forward to seeing your interpretations & images.
Hi Sharon,
Don’t let me fool you, organisation comes hard to me as well!
Was your Toby a miniature poodle? 14 is a good long innings for a dog. We also had 2 cats, but unfortunately the paralysis tick took one, and left the other 2 pets in hospital for 3 days on anti-venom.
Hey Catherine,
I have just left a MEGA reply about colours and brands on your blog. I’ll be posting up my colour comparison results here when I’m done - could be a while though, especially as my local art store recommends a French brand that they think I’ll enjoy. Time for more storage!
Cheers,
Cindy
