Another First

Last night was the opening of the “BIG” exhibition.

Over 150 established & emerging artists (one an Archibald winner no less!) were given the theme of BIG, and a canvas area of 8″ x 10″. The results were amazing.

Some chose to submit sculptural or 3D work, and all are part of a silent auction.

The new Mayor of Cairns opened the show, and Jeff (above right), felt “privileged” when she pushed him out of the way during the evening!

I was told by the gallery staff that my submission was the very first to have a bid placed on it. I feel quite stunned, as this is THE very first piece of work I will have sold, not to mention being my first proper exhibition. Just to be exhibiting in the same space as an Archibald Prize winner is amazing.

Now it’s back to the  Uni Assignment Grindstone….

    Hi Cindy,

What are those kingfishers doing to that poor snake? I take it that’s your sale. Do they still put a red sticker on it? Don’t get to openings. And not even aware of Cairns comp. Besides recently found trusty Pana FZ30 has been playing me false and faulty focus not merely my incompetence.
Time to upgrade. Hope studies are matching your art success.
    Cheers,
    Tony

Oooh is that windows of the Aquarius I can see in the background…..ahh it seems just like last week!!!!!!

Those HUUUGE naughty Jelly Babies fade to nothing at night don’t they!

CONGRATULATIONS on your first sale! Good luck with the Assignments!

Hi Tony and thanks for your kind words.

Yes the Azures are mine - it was tough trying to fit birds into the BIG theme. I threw a green tree snake between them and entitled it “Honey’ it’s bigger than both of us!” It’s a silent auction until the 19th, and then a real life auction between the last 10 bidders. Prices go up dramatically for the well known names.

You should definately enter the Cairns Post comp - yours are some of the best photos I’ve seen. Unfortunately my poor photos are a direct result of incompetence, rather than equipment!

Links to comp are as follows:

To view the submissions in 5 categories:
    http://tools.cairns.com.au/photo-gallery/gallery.php?parent_id=2611

    To submit a photo:
    http://www.cairns.com.au/advertising/wildlife_pictures.html

You may just see some of my poor efforts there as well!

    Cheers

    Cindy

    Hi Kim,

    Thanks for the warm wishes!

If you look really really closely, you can see some people on the Aquarius balcony with a pair of binoculars. Hang on, that was last week!

Hi everyone and thank you for all your kind comments.

So much going on right now, hardly time to catch my breath!

Will let you all know how the auction ends in a couple of weeks time.
