Illustration Friday - Sail
I do apologise for the bad scan of this illo - it was done some years back for an interactive CD package for schools. The original watercolour had rainbow holographic glitter featured all over the sail.
It ended up on the DVD cover (I apologise again, when I resized this the text Drop Shadows went wild!):
The illustration for the first story (of 20), featured the Woodlum (the animal’s “ark”) in the background. Not such a fantastic scan either!
I’m just in the door from the movies - we saw “Wanted”, with Angelina Jolie at her gun totin’ best. I had planned to do a watercolour of a big & beautiful sail fish for this week’s topic, but the movie won out over sitting at the drawing desk!
Lots of work to do before painting class tomorrow, I believe I’m to be introduced to oil paints - very exciting!

I love your use of color. If the scan is this bright and fun the original with the rainbow holographic glitter must really be something.
Beutiful painting. The colors are extraordinary.
Oh, it’s a very fun illustration. The colors and design are great.
AAAHHHHH the memories!!
That’s a pretty groovy looking ark. All it needs is a big outboard on the back.
How come the lion has angels wings?
Hi everyone and thanks for stopping by.
Jennifer, yes you need sunglasses on for the original - fun and bright was the brief for the kids (all lower primary age).
Irene, yes, there was no “controlled palette” for this one - every colour of the rainbow to be used and used a LOT!
Snowartmom, fun is what it’s all about - in a classroom, kitchen, garden wherever!
Margie, yes, I can almost forget the glitter nightmares - almost.
Tim, long story. I suppose you’ve heard the one about committees? That a camel is a horse designed by a committee? Well, the animals didn’t have wings originally. When it was decided they should, I had to go back and add wings to the lot of them. Nuff said.
Gorgeous and so cheerful! Nice.
I love it, really exciting and full of the promise of magic and adventure, brilliant design, the ark being the shape of the magic lamp is genius:)
Wonderful illustration! Inspires me to be much bolder with color! Thanks for sharing : )
beautiful colours
Cindy,
I enjoy this art work as love the fantasy theme…you clever girl….are you sure your first name is not Lois……The photograph in the paper is a great capture and do admit was not so observant of the birds around me in the north barring the in your face galahas….story of my relationships missed the pearls and jewels and noticed the galahas…… I love galahas, the avian variety. I am digressing……Enjoy the weekend…I am working this weekend again and need to exercise a least 25 ks per day until Monday and will do a 40 exercise on Tuesday…then taper for the weekend…..That is the plan anyway. Am keeping busy and tired so I do not dwell on my broken heart.
Regards,
Elizabeth
Hi everyone from Illustration Friday! I have visited all your lovely blogs and wonderful images, what a talented bunch exists out there in blogland. I haven’t even had the time to see what the new topic is - I do like surprises! See you all again next week with fresh inspiration - Good luck!
Elizabeth! You put me to shame with your fitness regime! Ok, so maybe it’s not yourself walking the miles, but we both know that it’s hard work driving the four legged ones!
I did actually go for walk this morning. We walked from Clifton Beach, along Kewaara Beach to almost Trinity beach Point. I got sunburnt at 9.30 in the morning in winter.
Kewarra Beach has a new beachside cafe called appropriatley the “Beach Shack”. Very dog friendly as well. As we sat drinking coffee, looking out through the palms, it just hit us how lucky we are. Of course the coffee (with 2 sugars), probably left us with a calorie surplus after the walk!
Galahs? I only see cockies!
Have you thought that maybe you are the pearl? I certainly think so.
